Bruce County resident earns Ontario Senior of the Year nod

A Bruce County resident has received an Ontario Senior of the Year award.

A release from the county says that Gateway Haven resident Kathy Broeckel has been given the award, which is "given by a municipality to recognize an outstanding senior who, after age 65, enriches the social, cultural, or civic life of the community."

Broeckel has lived at Gateway Haven since 2017, and has been an active member of the Resident Council, ensuring fellow resident's voices are heard. With Kathy's leadership, the Resident Council provides advice and recommendations to the home regarding what residents would like to see done to improve care and well-being.

“Gateway Haven is very appreciative of Kathy Broeckel's voice and leadership. Her contributions to the home are so deserving of this honour,” shared Director of Long Term Care & Senior Services Megan Garland.

“Thank you Kathy Broeckel for your valuable contributions to Gateway Haven's care and quality of life. Your leadership and passion for the well-being of your fellow residents is remarkable and you are so deserving of this appreciation and recognition,” says Warden Janice Jackson.
