Contest to perform at Lucknow's Music in the Fields on now

Applications are now open for the Emerging Artist Showdown for this year’s Lucknow’s Music in the Fields.

Marketing Director, Cheryl Johnston, says the contest is open to any musicians and bands from Ontario.

“The Emerging Artists Showdown is an opportunity for up and coming artists to have a chance to play at the side stage on the Saturday night of the festival. There will be two winners. The runners-up will play before 54-40 and Tenille Arts, and the winners will be able to play before Chris Jansen and our headliner Brothers Osborne,” said Johnston.

Johnston says this year’s contest is in honour of someone special.

“Our first winner back when we did this in 2012 was a young lad by the name of James Cameron. He actually came back a couple of years later to play again. He was really energetic, a really good addition to the festival,” said Johnston. “Unfortunately, back in 2020, he lost his battle to mental health issues.”

She adds the festival wanted to honour him by dedicating this contest in his memory, incorporating his band logo, and making the commitment to donate festival proceeds towards local mental health organizations.

Proceeds from the festival are going to the charity WES for Youth Online - an organization that provides wellness & emotional support for youth through online professional counselling.

“Our motto for Music in the Fields is ‘Great Music for a Greater Cause’, so we’re always pushing to remind people that this isn’t just a festival, it’s there to raise funds and do good.”

Video submissions will be accepted until June 27th. Then, an internal panel of judges will select the finalists before public online voting begins June 29th and ends July 18th.

The festival takes place August 25th-27th.
