Mayor Bernie MacLellan says Huron East council has considered a number of options for future council meetings.
MacLellan says council looked at going back to full in-person meetings and still having virtual committee meetings.
"At the end of the discussion there was a motion put forward that we would, starting in July, do one meeting a month that is in-person, one meeting a month that is virtual and still attempt, when possible, to keep the committee meetings virtual."
MacLellan adds, there are benefits to either way. He says there is definitely a different feel to the room with an in-person meeting that allows you to talk face to face with people. "We also recognize the fact that when we do virtual meetings, it saves the taxpayers money because we're not paying the mileage costs back and forth and you're not paying extra time for staff members who either have to hang around late or drive back in to attend those meetings."
MacLellan says what they've decided on is a compromise, but council does have the option of adjusting that, as the situation changes, and going back to full in-person meetings are going back to virtual meetings.
