South Huron Mayor, George Finch, says most of the residential development currently being proposed for the municipality is single family dwellings, but he says they'll be on smaller lots to better use the available space.
Finch says there is a lot of activity in South Huron right now.
“There's an opportunity that's been presented to council for information of a five-story apartment building with 83 units. That's the first of its kind in South Huron of that magnitude and that height. It's being proposed to be at Waterloo Street and Main Street on the south end of Exeter.”
Finch adds, he understands those units will be condos.
Finch says this past Monday night they also had an application come forward.
“Monday night this past week, we had an application come forward through a public process for another development and that one consists of 159 single detached residential dwelling lots and two blocks of 84 residential dwellings and that'll be right behind the South Huron Rec. Centre, that open space there.”
Finch says they don't have enough people in South Huron to fill the jobs that are available there, so he's hoping when the supply of housing catches up with the demand, that will bring the prices down and attract more people to the municipality.
