North Perth Council heard a proposal at this week's meeting for a potential bird watching zone in Listowel.
Doug Grant, a local citizen, made the presentation calling for a designated bird watching zone to be established around the sewage treatment facility. CAO Kris Snell says council was interested in the idea.
"Council asked staff to bring a report back at a future meeting with some additional details around the idea. So I think it's something we'll explore, but it's an opportunity for us to increase bird watching opportunities in our community, so we'll bringing back a report in the near future."
Snell says other municipalities have set up similar projects, and he feels there could be a setup that could function well around the local sewage treatment facility.
"We think there can be a relationship that can be created that doesn't have a negative impact on our sewage treatment plant, so that's sort of what we have to explore but we think at this point it probably can be done."
Moving forward, council will let staff sift through some details on how the project could potentially come together in a way that benefits recreation seekers without disrupting any operations at the wastewater treatment facility.
