The Blyth Festival has launched a fundraiser for the people of Ukraine.
Audience Development Coordinator Kelly McIntosh explains the fundraiser is a play that tells the story of second generation Ukrainian Canadian Theatre Artist and playwright, Lianna Makuch, who went to Ukraine before 2018.
“What it was meaning to achieve at the time was raising awareness of on-going conflict that was not getting really talked about. And now here we are in 2022. So it's a perfect coming together of a Canadian – Ukrainian playwright on a mission that has predicted the current events.”
The recording will be available on the Blyth Festival YouTube channel for the next month.
“The reading itself is going to be more than just a straight reading on YouTube, I think Lianna's going to be interviewed about her process of going overseas and putting herself in conflict zones, as well as getting to hear a lot of the play,” added McIntosh.
And more details and a link for making donations to Red Cross and the Ukrainian Foundation groups can be found on the Blyth Festival website.
