North Huron council approved its budget Monday night.
Reeve Bernie Bailey says the increase is 6.28 per cent.
According to budget documents, the tax bill increase from the 2022 budget on the average assessed home works out $94.02 in the Wingham Ward, $97.46 in the Blyth Ward and $118.32 in East Wawanosh.
That is the municipal portion and does not include County or Education impacts.
The list is long as the budget will cover a number of projects including development services to the Hutton Heights property for a hundred new home build, the stand pipe replacement in Wingham, the town hall accessibility replacement, water de-chlorination in Blyth and a $814,000 project for the Westcast Community Complex.
Bailey says the stand pipe replacement in Wingham has been put off for fifteen years and just can't be put off any longer.
Bernie adds some of this years costs will add to assessment in the future with the Hutton Height development.
“What we're looking for is fifty homes a year to be built there, according to some of the contractors I'm talking to and they should have them built in two years and, of course, then those tax dollars flow back into North Huron for some much-needed tax relief,” said Bailey.
Bailey acknowledges this is the highest budget that this council has approved but believe the money that will be spent on items that can't be put off and will benefit the North Huron.
