Survey on national COVID infections, lifting restrictions

The Angus Reid Institute found widespread infections from the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Canada.

The study estimates that approximately one-in-five households or 21 per cent have had at least one case of COVID-19 positivity since December 1st, 2021.

About 36 per cent of positive tests occurred in the first two weeks of January, while 42 per cent occurred in December.

Further, the data shows that overall, 9 per cent of Canadians have received a positive test since December 1st.

The poll also found that as the the latest wave peaks, many Canadians are leaning toward reducing restrictions related to COVID-19 control in Canada.

A majority, 54 per cent, now say it is time to remove restrictions and let Canadians manage their own level of risk. That is an increase of 15 points since the same question was asked in early January.

Women over the age of 54 are the only age-gender group that disagree that restrictions should be ended.

A majority of each of the other gender and generation groupings agree that the time has come.
