Perth County OPP warn another texting scam is making the rounds.
An OPP report explains a victim received a text message on January 12 from what appeared to be a reputable banking institution
The text suggested there was an issue, and the victim clicked on the provided link,which rerouted to a legitimate looking website.
Unfortunately, when the victim entered their banking information to log in, scammers used the password to transfer almost $3,000 out of the victim's account.
The Perth County OPP warns people not to answer requests for personal information but to instead contact their bank to make sure the communication is actually coming from them.
Red flags to look for when you receive messages include: generic messages (that do not use your name), spelling mistakes, automated messages, and messages from banks/websites you have never used before.
