Large increases in early voting in the region

Candidates running in the federal election go into the home stretch this weekend.

Voting day is Monday.

There was also an increase in advance polling.

According to Elections Canada, over 5.7 million electors decided to cast their ballot early. That was over 18 percent more than in the 2019 election.

Locally, Perth-Wellington saw the largest increase, with over 6,200 more people voting early or more than 42 percent.

In Huron-Bruce the increase in advanced polling was 35 percent and in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound it was 30 percent.

In all three cases, the number of people voting early was well over 20,000.

If you are planning to vote on Monday, Elections Canada's checklist includes making sure your voter's card has the right information including your address. And you will need to bring your voter card along with a form of identification to the polling station.

The polling station you are to vote at is listed on the voter information card that was sent by mail.
