Policing on West Grey agenda

A notice of motion opens up the possibility of West Grey taking a look at its police service coverage at the municipality's next council meeting.

West Grey's agenda for December 21st has a Notice of Motion from Councillor Rebecca Hergert asking council to request a costing from the Ontario Provincial Police, and "directs staff to take the necessary steps to initiate the process".

In her Notice of Motion, Hergert says council has a responsibility to ratepayers to ensure that public funds are spent in a responsible manor, and that "major decisions are made only after considering all of the relevant facts and options".

The West Grey Police service has patrolled the municipality since 2001 following the disbandment of the Durham Police Service, and covers the communities of Durham, Neustadt, Ayton and the surrounding area.

Tuesday's council meeting in West Grey is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
