Longtime municipal clerk announces retirement

The Municipality of North Perth will be saying goodbye to a long-serving member of their staff next year.

Municipal Clerk Pat Berfelz has announced that she will retire in February of 2022, after a lengthy career serving Listowel and the surrounding community in North Perth. Berfelz began her career in 1978 as a child care provider at the Listowel Day Care Centre, eventually becoming manager there. In 2002, she switched to serving the municipal office as Deputy Clerk before taking over as Municipal Clerk.

Berfelz oversaw many things during her career ad the North Perth Municipal Clerk, including the Building and Planning departments. Until the creation of the Programs Department in 2021, Pat was also responsible for the administration and management of child care services in North Perth. She also oversaw the construction of many significant childcare facilities, including the North Perth-Spinrite Child and Family Centre, St. Mary’s Child Care Centre and the Monkton Child and Family Centre.

“Pat Berfelz is just this larger-than-life figure in our Corporation and community,” said North Perth Mayor Todd Kasenberg. “She has been a joy to work with, and a fountain of knowledge. I particularly appreciated her care and dedication to supporting me, as a newcomer to Council, on the assumption of the Chair. Pat’s knowledge, wit, energy, dedication and advice will be sorely missed. I do, of course, join the throng of those who will say thank you, and I extend best wishes to her and Bill as they embark on their retirement journey.”

“It has been an honour to work alongside a Clerk with such vast institutional knowledge and dedication to her community” shares Kriss Snell, North Perth Chief Administrative Officer. “It has been a pleasure to work with Pat during my time as both Clerk and CAO of North Perth and I wish her all the best in her much-deserved retirement."
