Local BIA shares public health message about impersonations

A warning from Huron Perth Public Health about callers impersonating health inspectors.

A message from the health unit to the Central Huron BIA, states that local businesses have been receiving calls from people claiming to be HPPH Public Health Inspectors. And in some cases they have told business operators that they are required to immediately close their business.

The health unit stresses the calls are not legitimate.

The Central Huron BIA shared the message through it's digital mail out, The Pulse.

And it goes on to explain that Public Health Inspectors respond to and investigate complaints and concerns, and where required to do so, inspect premises under the authority of the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

Reasons a Public Health Inspector might contact a business include: To discuss a complaint or concern received from the public To arrange an inspection of your premises, although not every inspection is booked in advance Or as a follow-up to an inspection or complaint

Huron Public Health has also offered some ways to verify if the call or visit is in fact from HPPH staff.

That includes having proper identification, giving further direction based on the nature of the visit. And they will provide further, detailed contact information, should there be any further questions.

The health unit also encourages anyone that receives a a call or visit from someone that may be fraudulent , to call the health unit directly at 1-888-221-2133 and ask to speak to the Environmental Health manager or email EHResponse@hpph.ca.
