Georgian Bluffs council to consider new "whistleblower policy"

A councillor in Georgian Bluffs has made a notice of motion regarding the development of a whistleblower policy.

Cathy Moore Coburn stated during Wednesday's regular council meeting that she is asking council to approve a policy on mandatory training for staff and council in order to ensure a quote-"zero-tolerance approach to workplace harrassment and violence".

Councillor Moore Coburn says this policy would prohibit the municipality from quote-"taking punitive measures against whistle-blowing employees, because of their activity that could adversely affect their employment".

CKNX contacted Moore Coburn for an interview but she directed any questions on the matter to Mayor Dwight Burley, who was unavailable for an interview on this subject as of the time of publication.
