Residents view proposal for apartment building at former Wingham Trailer Park site

Wingham residents had a chance to view a proposal to build a high-density apartment building at the site of the former Wingham Trailer Park.

Brock Hodgins is one of the proposed purchasers and was on-hand at an open house last week at the Wingham Legion to engage with nearby residents about plans for the project, which would be a five-storey building with 73 units in total, with one-bedroom units being available for rental for approximately $1,600-per-month if the project was to go ahead.

Hodgins says "there's just such a need for development. There's a need for retiree homes. The hope is that if some retirees were to move into the building, that would open up their single-family homes for younger families to move in to".

The purpose of the open house was to obtain feedback from residents on the proposed development, with some residents bringing up potential issues like loud music, the proposed new location of the Wingham Community Trail that runs through the property, concerns about cost of the units as well as the demographic for potential tenants.

Hodgins did note that most of the feedback "was very positive", and says if North Huron council were to vote to accept the proposal, the plan would be to begin building in June of 2022.
