Huron County has received just over $57,000 to help non-profit and co-operative housing projects.
The money comes from the Canada-Ontario Community Housing Initiative.
"There's always extra money needed to upkeep the properties," said Christine Hoffman, Housing Services Manager. "So with this money we will hopefully be able to do some capital work. We'll ask for projects that people would like to complete in the non-profits and co-op, and then try to distribute enough money to assist them."
Hoffman says when the non-profits and co-ops were established, it was with funding from the province, but some of those operating agreements are expiring.
"So this money will be put towards trying to maintain the properties to make sure they can keep offering the programs and safe places for people to live," added Hoffman.
