Huron Perth Pubic Health says a fatal COVID-19 outbreak at the Knollcrest Lodge long-term care home is a reminder that the pandemic is still ongoing.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says it’s also a reminder of how important it is that we protect our most vulnerable.
“What happened is that the highly transmissible Delta variant caused an outbreak at the same time that immunity from vaccination was waning, just at that five month mark, just before we were starting booster doses for these residents. So this is really a reminder to us that all Ontarians continue to follow public health measures.”
Three residents have died and there have been 12 confirmed cases with seven in residents and five in staff.
Dr. Klassen adds the health unit will continue an effort to provide booster shots at other area long-term care and retirement homes throughout September.
