GBHU issues Opioid Overdose Alert following string of non-fatal overdoses

The Grey-Bruce Health Unit has issued an Opioid Overdose Alert following eight non-fatal overdoses in the previous 5 days.

In a release, the GBHU says there have been six recent overdoses in Grey County, with four involving suspected fentanyl, while two overdoses occurred in Bruce County and both of those also involved suspected fentanyl.

In Grey and Bruce counties, there have been 10 fatal overdoses so far since February. Fentanyl, or carfentanil, are suspected to be involved in all of those.

The release also reminds residents that the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act provides protection from simple possession charges when 911 is called for an overdose.
