Provincial Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca stopped in Huron County Wednesday.
Del Duca was talking with members of the local Liberal team as well as area farmers at the home of Huron-Bruce provincial candidate Shelley Blackmore in Howick.
He says he was the first political leader to call for a reliable, made-in-Ontario vaccine certificate, and that was almost two months ago.
“I have reached out repeatedly to the Premier and others inside government, I have talked to the other opposition parties. I'm encouraged that the Premier has now seen the light and is doing the right thing, I'm deeply concerned that it's still going to take as many weeks as it will to get it fully up and running. That makes me nervous,” said Del Duca.
Del Duca says he wants are businesses and schools to stay open and our hospitals to remain secure and strong, so he wished Doug Ford had started the preparatory work for the vaccine certificate weeks ago and says he is strongly in favour of vaccine certificates.
Del Duca also says he strongly believes that the introduction of vaccine certificates will encourage more people to get vaccinated and points to the examples in other provinces.
“The examples that we've seen in other provinces, like British Columbia, where they did proceed with a vaccine certificate. As soon as they announced that it was coming, we saw the appointments for vaccines shoot up. I am convinced that a vaccine certificate that is reliable and is rolled out properly across the province will strongly encourage people to get the vaccine,” added Del Duca.
He says it's clear we're in a fourth wave and he wants the fourth wave to be as minimal as possible and the best way to do that is to make sure you have a vaccine certificate and vaccine mandates that are real.
