A media release from The Town of Saugeen Shores says the new Development Charges By-law will help support housing.
Council passed the measure at the July 19 Council Meeting. It will be implemented strategically to promote new housing.
The By-law will allow new rental housing to pay the charges over five years, and rental housing that is universally accessible, contains three bedroom apartments, or is near the downtown will be exempt from the charges. Basement apartments and similar units will also be exempt.
Town staff are also supporting attainable housing projects through other policies including through the community Improvement plan, and changes to the land use planning system.
“The Town of Saugeen Shores is committed to increasing supports and incentives for the development of housing types in our community,” says Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “Our Development Charges By-Law is just one of the tools we are using to increase the supply of housing.”
