Bayfield Agricultural Society to host 165th fair

The Bayfield Agricultural Society will host Bayfield's 165th agricultural fair next weekend.

Society Director, Doug Yeo, says they've had to make a few changes to make sure everyone is safe because of the pandemic. “So very little is going to be indoors. The bulk of the Fair will be outdoors and most of that will be the same as usual except that we certainly ask people to socially distance and any of the buildings they have go in we'll certainly have to be looking at the capacity as well as making sure they wear masks.”

Yeo says the Fair has changed over the years. He says agricultural societies were formed years ago to help farmers improve the livestock and get better yields for their crops. “It's turned into mainly now to a meeting place and a social place where people are able to join the urban and rural communities together and have some entertainment and have some exhibits at the same time and that competition spirit has remained throughout the years as well.”

Yeo says the Bayfield Fair will open on the evening of Friday, August 20th and continue through the weekend. The special guest on the 20th will be Senator Rob Black and he'll be joined by Huron-Bruce M-P-P and Agriculture Minister, Lisa Thompson.

More information about the Fair can be found on the Bayfield Agricultural Society web site.
