Heavy rainfall on Saturday caused flooding in downtown Durham.
According to West Grey officials at least two roads were washed out.
65 mm or rain fell on the area according to the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority and the municipality is reporting several flood basements from the rain.
“West Grey police, fire and public works staff responded quickly to ensure public safety and to protect our municipal infrastructure,” said Mayor Christine Robinson. “Ongoing assessments will be completed over the next few days as West Grey staff and conservation authority officials continue monitoring the situation.”
A Water Safety Statement is in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday , August 10th. Anymore rain could cause even higher water levels and flow speeds.
Officials are urging people to keep children and pets away from river banks and streams.
“West Grey is blessed with many rivers and streams, and at times like this, it’s important to remind citizens to take extra precaution around fast-moving water,” said Mayor Robinson. “Be especially vigilant, and remember to keep children and pets away from river banks and streams.”
