Local student trustee explains support for menstrual equality

A student trustee for the says students have received tremendous support in their effort to bring menstrual equity to schools in the Avon Maitland District School Board.

"The goal of the project is to provide free menstrual products in every single washroom that's available to students and staff," explained Makenzie Hallam. "Because we want to make sure that students are safe and they feel safe at school and can continue learning regardless of circumstances that they have to go through.”

Hallam says the issue of menstrual equity was taken up by student trustees throughout Ontario and in Huron and Perth counties.

Starting in September, there will be free products available in every single female and gender free washroom available for Grades 4 to 12 in Avon Maitland schools.
