Owen Sound officers allegedly assaulted, man faces charges

A man is accused of assaulting two Owen Sound police officers responding to a dispute at in the Walmart parking lot.

In a release, police say they got a report that a man was allegedly attacking another man. Officers say when they arrived they were approached by "an enraged" man who they say did not listen when told to back away.

One of the officers used a taser but was hit causing the weapon to miss. The second officer was then punched.

Police say the man was eventually handcuffed and put in the back of the cruiser where they accuse him of kicking the vehicle's doors and windows.

A 33-year-old from North Bruce Peninsula is in custody facing charges of causing a disturbance, assault, assault police, assault to resist arrest and disarming a police officer. They say more charges are pending. The man is due in Owen Sound court for a bail hearing this morning.

Police are also thanking bystanders who called police and stayed behind to give statements. Any witnesses that have yet to talk to police are asked to call Constable McKean at Owen Sound Police Service.
