Female students in Huron and Perth Counties will get a chance to find out what it is really like to work in skilled trades. The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board and the Avon Maitland District School Board have partnered with the Technical Training Group to host “The Real Deal on Skilled Trades: The Changing Culture”.
The event which is taking place virtually on Wednesday, June 2 from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. is sponsored by the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and aims to introduce female students in grades 7-12 to careers in the skilled trades.
A media release reported students will be able to engage, interact online, and be inspired by local female mentors who are working in various skilled trades. These mentors will share their experiences regarding getting into a skilled trade.
The release says each student will be given information on women getting into the skilled trades and an OYAP apprenticeship. Students will also be given a kit for a wood project, with tools included, which they will learn to build during the workshop, along with several other items.
