Hundreds of jobs available for Grey Bruce Owen Sound youth

The MP for Bruce Grey Owen Sound says 789 summer job opportunities are available for youth in the riding. Alex Ruff says various employers had the positions approved though Canada Summer Jobs in a variety of sectors.  The total funding approved for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound is $2,537,370.00.

The program strives to give young Canadians between the ages of 15 and 30 paid work opportunities. Youth can see the available jobs at www.jobbank.gc.ca/youth.

“Canada Summer Jobs opportunities will help youth in our community discover different careers, gain meaningful employment, and enable them to prepare for their futures financially,” said MP  Ruff. “This program represents important opportunities for both students and employers across the riding. The program is especially important this year following the impact the COVID-19  pandemic has had on students and businesses.”

A news release from Ruff continued, "CSJ helps youth gain the skills and experience they need to successfully transition to the labour market by providing wage subsidies to employers to create  employment opportunities. The program strives to give young Canadians between the ages of 15 and 30 paid work opportunities so that they can grow professionally and improve their skills in the not-for-profit, small business and public sectors."

It says in response to the ongoing pandemic, employers now have the flexibility to hire youth to work on a full-time or part-time basis, as well as beyond the summer months with some placements extending to February 2022. CSJ 2021 also includes an increased wage subsidy, so that private and public sector employers can receive up to 75 per cent of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage for each employee.
