COVID-19 cases spike in parts of Midwestern Ontario

Huron Perth Public Health added 32 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, including twelve in South Huron, four in North Huron and six in Stratford. Five people are now in hospital. There are 70 active cases, including 45 active variants.

A media release from Huron Perth Public Health blames the significant increase on workplace outbreaks, social gatherings, and household spread. HPPH reports it does not publicly disclose  details of workplace outbreaks unless we have determined there is a risk to the public.

“The increase in case numbers is a reminder that COVID-19 is still circulating in Huron Perth,” says Donna Taylor, HPPH Director and Incident Manager. “We cannot let our guard down. Until  more people are vaccinated, a large proportion of our population is susceptible to contracting COVID-19.” Individuals and businesses must continue to follow all public health and workplace safety measures to prevent transmission of the virus.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added eight new cases of COVID-19 to the confirmed list Monday, three in West Grey, Two in Owen Sound, two in Kincardine and one in South Bruce. There are 40 active cases, including 20 active variants.  Three residents are hospitalized with COVID-19. There have been four deaths due to the virus in Grey Bruce, and two other residents with the virus passed away outside of the region.

Public health officials added 24 new cases in Wellington County over the weekend. There are 88 active cases. Across the Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health region there are 394 active cases, 19 people are in hospital, and another 15 are in the ICU.
