Charges laid following arson investigation

The Grey-Bruce OPP have laid charges following a recent house fire that has been deemed an intentional arson.

On May 1st at 5:14 p.m., officers were dispatched to a fully engulfed house fire at a residence on Highway 21, in the Saugeen First Nation. Members from the Saugeen First Nation Fire Department attended the scene, extinguished the fire and confirmed that the fire appeared to be deliberately set. There were no occupants inside the residence at the time of the fire. The Office of the Fire Marshall was contacted and consulted during this investigation. A suspect was identified who was seen near the home at the time of the fire, and they were treated at local hospital for non-life threatening burns.

Following the investigation, police have charged a 40-year-old Saugeen First Nation resident with Arson and two counts of possession of a Schedule I substance. The accused was held for a bail hearing on May 2nd.
