Health officials in Windsor-Essex are reporting an increase of 45 additional COVID-19 cases.
According to the health unit, eight of Saturday’s cases are community-acquired, 11 are close contacts of confirmed cases and two are outbreak-related. Seventeen cases remain under investigation.
The overall case count in Windsor-Essex is now at 15,479. As of Saturday, there are 409 active cases, down from 434 on Friday. There are also 15 hospitalizations.
There were no new COVID-19-related deaths reported on Saturday in Windsor-Essex. To date, 414 individuals have passed away locally.
The number of workplace outbreaks in the region went down from 12 to nine on Saturday.
There is also one local long-term care outbreak, two community outbreaks and one school outbreak.
Meanwhile, vaccine efforts continue to pay off in Windsor-Essex.
As of Saturday, 140,636 first doses have been administered to local residents, up from 137,567 the previous day.
Across Ontario, the province recorded 3,369 new cases on Saturday. According to Health Minister Christine Elliot, there were 1,050 new cases in Toronto, 819 in Peel and 286 in York Region.
The total number of cases in Ontario is now at 466,733 with 421,216 recoveries. As of Saturday, 8,079 people in the province has passed away from the virus and 2,152 are currently hospitalized.
