Council want more information before approving new grocery store

Wellington North council wants more information on traffic problems before approving zoning for a new 27,000 square foot Foodland grocery store at the north end of Mount Forest.

Foodland plans to close its downtown Mount Forest store once the new store opens on a seven-acre property which now is home to the Beer Store and a Peavey Mart. Both the other stores will remain on the property which fronts on Main Street or Highway 6.

Councillor Dan Yake said there are already serious traffic problems at the north end of Mount Forest, and the new development which will include a drive-through restaurant will only add to the traffic problems.

He said he will not support the required zone change until the traffic problem is addressed.
