In a surprise revelation at Kincardine's committee-of-the-whole meeting Wednesday, Mayor Anne Eadie announced her resignation.
First elected as mayor in 2014, she was re-elected in 2018. She also served as deputy mayor.
Eadie read a prepared statement to council at Wednesday's committee meeting.
While in the statement she announced her resignation as of Friday, April 9, it did not provide details as to why she is resigning.
"My wish for the community that I love is that we continue to build on our strengths, support each other in times of celebration and need, and all move forward in a positive manner to make this an even better place for present and future generations to live in," opened Eadie's letter.
The statement went on to thank her husband, Doug, her family as well as staff and fellow councillors through the years for their support.
Eadie's municipal career also included serving on council in Huron-Kinloss between 2003 and 2010 before moving back to Kincardine.
She has also been a part of Bruce County Council through her role as mayor in Kincardine.
Kincardine Council will have to consider options to replace the mayor after Anne Eadie submitted he resignation as Mayor.
A media release from CAO Sharon Chambers reported that the Municipality's Procedure By-law calls for Deputy Mayor Randy Roppel to assume the responsibilities and have the powers of Mayor until a replacement is confirmed.
