Charges laid following alleged assault of officer during response to disturbance

Police have laid a number of charges against a 31-year-old following a recent incident in Meaford.

On March 25th at 11:05 a.m., Grey-Bruce OPP officers responded to a report of a disturbance on Victoria Street in Meaford. Officers were informed that the alleged suspect had a weapon and was screaming and yelling in the street and being confrontational with other residents. Police arrived and placed the 31-year-old Meaford resident under arrest, during which time an officer was allegedly assaulted. The accused now faces charges of Assault a Peace Officer, Forcible Confinement, 3 counts of Uttering Threats to cause death or bodily harm and 3 counts of Fail to Comply with a release order.

The accused was held for a bail hearing on March 29th at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound. The charges have yet to be proven in a court of law.
