Wellington North heard that for the second year in a row, Mount Forest’s annual Fireworks Festival has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
Councillor Sherry Burke who is a member of the Firework Committee said the decision was made with great difficulty, but the committee knew it was the right thing to do. She said other plans are in the works to keep the spirit of the festival alive.
Wellington North Mayor Andy Lennox said the cancellation will be particularly difficult for the many people who are starving for the social interaction that events such as the Fireworks Festival provide.
