ABCA working on revisions for shoreline protection

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is working on revisions to its shoreline protection policies for what it calls 'dynamic beach areas'.

That is around the Grand Bend and Port Franks areas.

“Staff had introduced a draft policy which would allow some land owners to put in shore protection where current policy would not," said Cade. "And it did generate a huge amount of interest from the residents in the area and we had submitted a second draft of some proposed policy revisions to the board."

Cade says another report will be presented in about a month after some more discussion with land owners.

In the meantime the ABCA is constantly sifting through information about water levels in Lake Huron.

“It appears from the graphs that I get from Environment Canada that the water levels are declining somewhat and we have to parse that out between what is declining over the long term versus the seasonal change in fluctuation," added Cade. "I have heard, anecdotally, that some agencies have run models and they are thinking that the water levels are heading back down.”
