Rickshaws coming to the Square in Goderich

The Mayor of Goderich says there could be rickshaws driving around the Square this summer.

John Grace says council approved a request from a group called Cycling Without Age, at its last council meeting and explained they're motorized rickshaws being driven by volunteers.

"It's motorized rickshaws by volunteer pilots or drivers and it's for the senior community and it's all about getting these seniors out and these pilots or drives will take senior citizens around town in these motorized rickshaws."

Grace says similar programs are gaining popularity elsewhere in North America and have been popular in Europe for some time.

"So now the people that are putting it together, Gerry O'Brien and a few volunteers, will now reach out to different groups and probably work with them and it could be MacKay Centre for seniors or it could be one of the senior's homes here in Goderich."

Grace says they expect to have rickshaws driving around the Square by mid to late summer.
