New charges laid in connection to local fire

The Stratford Police Service has laid new charges in connection with a fire last month.

On February 23rd, officers attended a residence on Borden Street in Stratford after receiving a report of a fire.

Prior to the arrival of emergency services, four people had escaped the fire, but three had to be taken by ambulance to Stratford General Hospital

A release says Stratford Police and the Office of the Fire Marshall conducted an investigation into the cause of the fire, and as a result, evidence was obtained to show that an explosion had occurred when butane was being used to extra oil from cannabis to produce an item commonly known as 'Honey Oil'.

As a result of the investigation, three people from Stratford, a 38-year-old male, 42-year-old male, and a 37-year-old male, face several charges, including Arson disregard for Human Life. The 38-year-old man also faces a charge of Arson - Damage to own property.

All three males are scheduled to attend a court hearing regarding the charges, which have yet to be proven in court, on March 22nd, 2021.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
