Discrimination study underway in Huron Perth

Huron County has partnered with Forum Research Inc. and the University of Western Ontario to conduct a survey on the experiences of discrimination in the Huron and Perth region.

Huron County Local Immigration Partnership Coordinator, Kristin Crane, said, "The goal of the survey is to better understand and measure the experiences and effects of discrimination on the population at a local level. Surveys have been conducted, however they're Canada wide or perhaps, Ontario wide.”

She said nothing has been done to address the situation at the municipal or county level.

Crane said the information is necessary to enable them to take the data and do something meaningful with it and create and implement strategies that would make Huron County safe and welcoming for everyone.

Crane said Western University designed the survey and will be analyzing the results and the survey will be conducted by Forum Research. Crane says the survey will run through the month of March and people will be randomly selected and contacted by phone.

She added, “The phone calls are just for screening purposes, to make sure that adults are eligible to participate and all of the responses are anonymous and done on line. So a survey link would be followed up and sent by either a text message or email.”

More information about the survey can be found on the Huron County web site.
