A Hanover resident is in custody following a police chase on Bluewater Veteran's Highway (Highway 21).
Just before midnight on Friday, March 12th, an officer with the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police observed an un-plated, decommissioned ambulance travelling southbound on Kerry's Line near Kintail.
According to a release, the driver failed to stop for the officer and intentionally drove into the side of a police cruiser.
A tire deflation device was utilized by officers near Pine River, but the driver refused to stop and continued travelling on just the rims of their vehicle.
Officers say that as the vehicle approached Kincardine, a passenger opened up a rear door and began throwing metal objects at the pursuing officers.
The release also notes that the driver collided with three police vehicles before the decommissioned ambulance was finally disabled near the intersection of Bluewater Highway and Broadway Street in Kincardine (Highway 9 and Highway 21). Two people allegedly fled the scene, but members of the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team and OPP Canine Unit found one of the suspects hiding under a boat in a backyard on Sutton Street in Kincardine and they were taken into custody.
Police say they continued searching, however a second suspect was not located.
Upon confirming the accused person's identity, OPP learned the same man was wanted by the Hanover Police Service for Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
According to Huron County OPP, Blake Tisdale, 34, from Hanover faces charges for Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police Officer, Fail to Stop After Accident, Driving while under suspension, as well as three counts of Assault of a Peace Officer with a Weapon.
