Police lay charges following firearms investigation

The Saugeen Shores Police Service have laid numerous charges against a 65-year-old Port Elgin man following a firearms investigation.

On March 9th, 2021, the Saugeen Shores Police Service conducted an investigation into firearms related offences in Port Elgin. Officers were tipped off that a man was allegedly in possession of an illegal shotgun. Officers quickly located the man and placed him under arrest. A search of the accused revealed 10 twelve gauge shotgun rounds and a bolt action for a large calibre rifle. The officer also located a 12 gauge pistol grip shotgun nearby. Police obtained a search warrant of the accused's residence, and located two more rifles and several hundred rounds of ammunition within the residence.

The accused was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing. The charges have yet to be proven in a court of law, and a court date for the accused has yet to be scheduled.
