Police lay charges following assault with a weapon

A 36-year-old Perth East resident is facing numerous charges following a recent assault with a weapon.

On February 27th just before 6 a.m., Perth County OPP officers responded to a report of an assault with a weapon that had just occurred at a residence in West Perth, where the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle. Police were informed that the suspect was possibly impaired. The vehicle was found driving on Perth Line 44 in West Perth and was stopped by police. The accused did allegedly show signs of impairment, and they were arrested and brought to a local OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result, the 36-year-old from Perth East faces charges including Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs, Assault and Assault with a Weapon. The accused's vehicle was impounded for 7 days and their license suspended for 90 days, and they have a court appearance scheduled for a later date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford. The charges have yet to be proven in a court of law.
