Preparations in motion for reconstruction of local main street

The Mayor of Central Huron says they're beginning preparations for the construction on the main street in Clinton this summer.

Mayor, Jim Ginn, says it'll probably be near the end of June before they can start construction. He says they'll be bringing two crews to work on the main street in hopes of completing the job a little faster.

"We'll actually be bringing in two crews to work on it in hopes of doing it a little quicker. It's a little more costly to bring in two crews, but it's quicker. It'll still be the entire summer and into the fall to complete it."

Ginn adds the municipality is doing the work in conjunction with the county.

"So the county will be paving from the stop lights, north, to Base Line Road, to the fire hall and we'll be just taking the first two blocks, from the stop lights north to Princess Street and then we go down the streets just a little bit to tie everything in nicely and hook up all the things we want to hook up."

Ginn explains the work is necessary to make some upgrades to the water system and it was felt that now is the time to do it, in conjunction with the paving that's being done by the county. Ginn adds, they are also going to put in things like more decorative street lighting and sides walks to brighten up the down town a little.
