Three in hospital following morning collision

Three people were taken to hospital after a collision in the Municipality of North Perth this morning.

At about 8:00 a.m., the Perth County OPP, Perth County Paramedic Services, and the North Perth Fire Department responded to a two vehicle head-on collision on Perth Road 164, between Line 87 and Line 88, just north of Listowel.

Police say that a northbound vehicle, a passenger van, lost control and entered the southbound lane, striking an SUV. The driver of the van was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. One passenger of the van and the driver of the SUV received minor injuries. Five other occupants of the van were not injured.

Another vehicle was damaged when it swerved to avoid the collision, and entered the ditch.

Steve Jones, 42, of Trenton, has been charged with Careless Driving

The charge has not yet been proven in court.

The Perth County OPP is reminding drivers to leave enough space between vehicles to allow for emergency situations. Check weather and road conditions prior to departing, and give yourself extra time to travel when conditions are not ideal.
