A program that allows people to talk with isolated older adults in rural areas of Huron County is expanding.
The 'Lonely No More' program, put together by the Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health in 2018, provides a free, weekly phone call to seniors.
Sarah Versteeg is the Program Coordinator.
"It provides a free, weekly phone-based program for isolated rural, older adults and the calls are facilitated by a trained community member that provides peer support, coaching conversations and system navigation assistance,” said Versteeg.
And the program is looking for some more volunteers.
“Our volunteers are required to take our Lonely No More specific training. Its a webinar coming up on March the 2nd and in addition to that webinar, we're asking that our volunteers take a Connected Coaching webinar or a Connected Coaching E-Learning Course,” added Versteeg.
Versteeg says they're currently hoping to reach up to 50 more seniors in Huron County.
