Arson and attempted murder charges connected to Mitchell house fire

Perth County OPP report a 27-year-old man faces arson and attempted murder charges in connection to a suspicious residential fire on St. David Street in Mitchell.

Emergency services were called at 9:30 am on February 11th to battle the blaze in an apartment. Two adults were transported to hospital, one with minor injuries, and a second person with serious injuries.

A media release says police charged Roger Pyne, 27, of no fixed address, with: Attempt to Commit Murder. Arson Disregard for Human Life, and Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.  The charges have yet to be proven in court.

The fire was investigated by Perth OPP major Crime Unit with the assistance of the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM) and the OPP Forensic Identification Service
