Grey-Bruce OPP have laid charges against two people following an altercation within the Saugeen First Nation.
On February 16th at 1:57 a.m., officers responded to a report of an alleged assault with a weapon that had just occurred at a residence on Mason Drive in the Saugeen First Nation. An argument had occurred within the residence involving several parties, and the argument became physical. One person sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries as a result of the fight. After the fight ended, the two suspects involved left the scene. Police located both a short time later and both were placed under arrest without further incident.
As a result, police have laid charges against 21-year-old Karl Osborne Smith of Mississauga, including assault with a weapon. Charges are also pending against 24-year-old Hamilton resident Shawna Petonoquot, including aggravated assault. The suspects were both held for bail hearings at the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on February 16th and 17th, respectively. The charges are yet to be proven in a court of law.

-Assault with a weapon, section 267(a) Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) -Assault, section 266 CCC -Uttering threats - to cause death or bodily harm, section 264.1(1)(a) CCC
The charges against Shawna Petonoquot are as follows:
-Aggravated assault, section 268 Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) -Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, section 88 CCC -Two counts of failure to comply with a release order, section 145(5)(a) CCC
