A media release from Perth County OPP said one of the victims of a fire Thursday was more seriously injured then first reported.
The media release said one of two people taken to hospital after the blaze on St. David Street in Mitchell has major life threatening injuries. The media release said on February 11 2021, just before 9:30 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), West Perth Fire Department, and the Perth County Paramedic Services responded to a fire at an apartment building. The media release says two adults were transported to hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, but one has been updated to life-threatening.
The media release said the road was closed between Waterloo St. and Rowland St. for emergency crews, but it has since reopened. The media release said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and while it is considered suspicious, there are no risks to the safety of the public. The media release says the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal and the OPP Forensic Identification Service are assisting the Perth County Major Crime Unit with the investigation.
