Brockton is setting its budget at $9,855,085.
That's a 1.61% increase in the total levy.
Brockton councillors met over three special meetings to approve the budget.
Some highlights from the 2021 Municipal Budget include: -$200,000 transferred to a reserve fund to assist with long-term planning for a new arena facility - $100,000 to develop the Durham Street Park in Walkerton to support downtown businesses - $11,250 to broadcast Council meetings and accommodate a gradual return to in-person meetings - $26,000 savings from early repayment of debt associated with the Brockton Child Care Centre - $1.9 million reconstruction of Concession 10 to Elmwood - $1.4 million Completion of the Chepstow Bridge Project - $750,000 rehabilitation of the D.S. Weiss memorial Bridge (former Brant Township) - $910,000 for the reconstruction of George Street in Walkerton - $475,000 In upgraded Roads Equipment - $25,000 for a Strategic Action Plan to be initiated immediately - $50,000 for an updated Master Recreation and Leisure Services Plan - Committed to starting Phase 2 of the East Ridge Business Park in 2021
"The rate of residential development in Brockton continues to increase and Council and staff are committed to investing in roads and recreation to provide our current and future residents with the facilities and infrastructure they desire to maintain the strong sense of pride in this community," said Chief Administrative Officer, Sonya Watson. " The goal of the 2021 Municipal Budget was to maintain quality service levels while creating a vision for our shared future."
