AMDSB Superintendent retires after 30 years of service

Superintendent Jodie Baker has retired after thirty years with the Huron and Perth and then the Avon Maitland District school boards.

Baker says she's enjoyed a great career, she loves being with students and that kind of plays into her reason for retiring now.

"I love being with students and that kind of plays into my reason for retiring now. But I really enjoyed my time with the board. We had an opportunity to run some excellent programs for students, I believe we've made significant gains."

But she points out, the role of a superintendent during the pandemic has changed significantly.

"The role of a superintendent during the pandemic has changed significantly and while I love being able to implement change at a system level, my passion has always been the students. So when you don't have any of that anymore you start to wonder if this is really what you want to do."

Baker says there are other things she wants to pursue and she'll also be able to come back and supply for the board's administrators when needed.
