Huron Shores Hospice receives help from UBC Local 2222

The Huron Shores Hospice at Tiverton Park Manor is now receiving help in various ways from UBC Local 2222.

UBC Local 2222 is offering the hospice materials, labour and their expertise to help transform the second suite at the hospice into a more home-like setting for residents and their families. Members of UBC Local 2222 have been painting, widening the doorway for a new hospital bed and are also installing new trim and fixtures. The cost of the materials have been covered by UBC Local 2222, as well.

The Huron Shores Hospice is a charitable not-for-profit residential hospice. It is volunteer-led and community-funded, and provides quality end-of-life care for residents and their families during that process at no cost.

The hospice serves families in Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, Huron-Kinloss and surrounding areas. Huron Shores Hospice also provides free end-of-life planning workshops, grief recovery, end-of-life doula services and death cafes where people can gather and talk through the process of losing a loved one.

“UBC Local 2222 is thrilled to be give back to our community by helping the volunteers involved in Huron Shores Hospice create that home-away-from-home for those needing end-of-life care,” says Ryan Plante, Local Union Coordinator of UBC Local 2222. “By using our skills and resources to renovate the suite, Huron Shores Hospice can put their donations directly towards the care of their residents and families. We are so happy to be able to support this dedicated team of volunteers to bring their vision to reality. We know that many residents and their families will appreciate this space and the care they receive from the hospice.”

“UBC Local 2222 has been there for us from the beginning,” says Carol Rencheck, Co-Chair of Huron Shores Hospice. “Ryan’s response to any request is ‘don’t ask, just tell us what needs to be done,’ which is amazing support to have from this talented membership. We are thrilled to have their support to transform our suite into a home-like setting for those needing our support and care.”
