Wiarton Willie Festival Cancelled over COVID Concerns

The Wiarton Willie Festival is the latest to be cancelled over COVID-19 concerns.

In a release this morning, the Town of South Bruce Peninsula said running a festival of that "calibre takes many months, substantial manpower, and an abundance of sponsorships."

The release goes on to say that with the pandemic restrictions in place they realize hosting the festival is not possible.

Economic Development Officer Danielle Edwards says the cancellation is particularly sad because it is the 65th anniversary of the festival.

Mayor Janice Jackson says they are trying to pivot and commemorate the occasion in a different way. She says, "we hope you tune into your social media platforms and your favourite morning TV show on Groundhog Day to see this special prediction."
